Author and Illustrator Current Location: Connecticut Honorarium: The fee listed below is only the honorarium and does not include expenses which the hosting organization must pay for. $1,650 per day (for 3 programs-additional programs are available at a cost of $500 each) Program Description: Greet the staff. One 45-minute presentation for grades 1-3. One 45-minute presentation for grades 4-6. A 20-30 minute session with kindergartners. Barbara does a rousing reading of one of her books, with group participation. A short meeting with a select group of students... usually a writing or art class of exeptionaly involved students. Barbara talks about her early years as a young artist/Writer, and how she learned to perfect her drawing and writing skills. Barbara talks about where her story ideas come from, then how she puts a story together. She describes how to make a dummy book, and displays her journals, sketchbooks, manuscript, dip pen, ink, watercolor box, and drawings through all stages of development. Barbara stresses the importance of revising, and persistance. She shows color proofs, and the end product her books. The last 15 minutes of her presentation involves all the students helping Barbara invent a story as she illustrates the story on large sheets of paper. Barbara saves some time at the end for questions.
