Helpful articles

visitingauthors.com has provided a list of articles which are extremely helpful when planning a visit. These materials are written from both the authors' and hosts' points of view and will give you many insights into the author visit process. We suggest you read several and at least one from each point of view.

Then What?

Determining your needs:
Our goal is to help plan a great day for everyone. Do you want the author/illustrator to speak to all your students or just a segment? Do you want small intimate groups or will large auditorium events reach your goal? Do you want a "Meet the Author" presentation or a writing workshop? Answers to these and other similar questions will help you to make the most of your visit.

Read the author presentation descriptions and decide which author seems rights for your needs.

Determining your budget:
Decide what you can afford. You'll need to raise enough money to cover the following:

Author's Honorarium

Author's Travel - airfare, taxi fares, etc. Decide whether you can afford to fly an author in, or whether your budget restricts you to a local author.

Accommodations - hotel (if needed), meals, and other living expenses for the duration of the trip.

visitingauthors can not inform you of all the costs involved in an author's visit. It is your responsibility to ascertain the specific costs (e.g. What are the travel arrangements? Does the author require an overnight stay?) before commiting to a visit.

You can fill in an author request form just click on the link below.

What happens next?

As soon as we receive your request form, we'll contact the author(s) you listed in order of preference. Please understand that it may take several weeks to get a response from authors due to their busy schedules. We will contact you again once we have heard back from the author(s) and then we will follow-up with a written confirmation. After you receive the confirmation, you are then responsible for making all further arrangements with the author.
