Timothy Bush has written and illustrated five books for young readers, and illustrated four books written by others. Characterized by imagination, humor and high energy, his stories use settings as diverse as Ice Age France and outer space to explore basic issues of childhood. His stage adaptation of his book Grunt! The Primitive Cave Boy was produced by the Denver Center Theatre Company, and toured regionally in the spring of 2000. His books have frequently been selected by Children's Book-of-the-Month Club, among others. He has several projects currently in production, including a picture book with a text by noted author Eve Bunting. Bush was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and attended the University of Dallas on academic scholarship. He spent two years as a Fulbright Teaching Assistant in Vienna Austria, and also lived for a time in the Greek Islands. An avid runner, he currently resides in New York City. |

Price: $17.00 NO LONGER AVAILABLE "In a futuristic tale from Bush, Benjamin's parents go out for a night on the rings of Saturn, leaving him in the care of Babysitter, a robot who is preprogrammed for bedtime at 8:00, with no cookies, no mik, and no sense of humor. Benjamin uses his recently acquired computer skills to reprogram his caretaker...Bush's skillful drawings create a space-age household that is as fun to explore visually." Kirkus Reviews |

Price: $15.00 In a California garden on a rainy night, Cricket feels small and worthless. He hops up some steps and finds himself in a place filled with light and warmth and a tall, sparkling tree. Eve Bunting's text is filled with her customary tenderness and charm, and Timothy Bush has captured its mood in his luminous illustrations. Together they create a memorable holiday book about a cricket who discovers that though he may be small, he is not insignificant. |

Price: $16.95 "When Mrs. Gourd takes her class on a field trip to the supermarket 'to see math in action,' the children troop into the store two by two, all except Marnie, who 'didn't give a bat's brain about math in action.'. Like many other math picture books, this introduces curricular concepts, but unlike most others, it shoots them off in rapid-fire succession as it gallops along at breakneck speed. Bush's dynamic, line-and-watercolor illustrations add humorous touches while reflecting the good-humored verve of the text." Booklist |

Price: $15.95 "My dad's job sure sounds like a lot of fun. He's part of a team. He fights off raiders.
And sometimes he even gets to ride on a bull. |

Price: $3.99 "It's a boring, rainy afternoon - the perfect time for Teddy Bear to share his scrapbook of memories with the little girls who owns him. And what memories Teddy Bear has! He's ridden a bucking bronco in the rodeo, been an ace crime reporter - he's even starred in a movie! No wonder he's a bit worn and shabby. For an ordinary little girl with flat brown hair, it's hard to imagine being important to someone with Teddy's glamorous past. But there's always room in Teddy's life - and his scrapbook - for someone who loves him just the way he is." |
|
Price: $14.00 "Ben receives a mysterious eleventh birthday present from his friend, Jason. It's photographs of Ben with a seemingly friendly alien taken two days from now! Also included is a tape, some weird stones, and some souvenirs. Jason has answered an ad and provided basic photos and a tape which have been doctored by someone to sound like an encounter with an alien…. Bunting keeps the three friends moving, the set-up is believable, and the ending save (by the dog) is happy theater. Parents have the last say, but the kids have the satisfaction of having shared an adventure." Children's Literature |

Author and Illustrator Current Location: New York, NY Honorarium:
Program Description: Materials required: study easel and big pad of drawing paper Tim's main focus in school presentations is taking the students through the process of how a book is created, with a special emphasis on relating that process to students' own work. Presentation elements - depending on venue and audience size - can include reading his books, showing slides, and sharing original art and publication production materials. It always includes drawing, answering questions and a lot of high-energy conversation. In addition to signing books the day of the visit, Tim usually makes a set of autographed bookmarks for the whole school. After the visit, he is happy to answer letters from students as well as sign and mail bookplates for any books that were ordered or delivered late. |
